ILO & ICOH

- Progress report March 2001

The NGO status of ICOH with the ILO (International Labour Office) was discussed in Singapore with Dr Jukka Takala. Specific areas of interest included the activities of the Scientific Committees and how they could assist the ILO in its aims and objectives. The specific question of child labour was also raised.

As a result of this, the ILO have formally approached ICOH about attending the Meeting of Experts on ILO Guidelines on Occupational Safety & Health Management Systems in Geneva in April 2001 as well as speaking at the 89th Session of ILO in Geneva in June 2001.

The ICOH accepted the invitation to the April meeting and proposed that Dr Alain Cantineau be our representative. We have formally requested some time at the 89th session where Vice-President Harrington will talk about Scientific Committee issues and Dr Tore Larsson will talk about Child Labour. This request for observer status will be reviewed in March 2001 and a decision is expected soon.
