Professor Giovanni Berlinguer passed away

On April 7 Professor Giovanni Berlinguer passed away, a prominent international scientist, educator, and policy maker in the field of occupational and public health.

Beside serving for three terms as Italian M.P. and one term as European M.P., he also held the positions of Head of the first National Health Plan under the Economic Development Programme approved by Italian Parliament; Vice President (1992-1995) and President (1999-2001) of the National Bioethics Committee and a member of the National Health Council (1994-1996). He was part of the International Bioethics Committee of UNESCO (2001-2007) and the Commission on the Social Determinants of Health of the World Health Organization (2005-2008). He was active in ICOH in various positions since 1984, and was elected honorary member by the General Assembly during the Centennial Congress in 2006.
