Dr. Max Robert Lum passed away
Until retirement in 2011, Dr. Lum was NIOSH’s Communication Director responsible for communications, research translation and international programs/extensive liaison with WHO, ISSA, ILO, PAHO.
After retiring from NIOSH, Dr. Lum continued to serve as a senior advisor on e-communication and research translation in the NIOSH Office of the Director. Before joining NIOSH in 1995, he served as Division Director at CDC′s Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry in Atlanta. Dr Lum’s 40-year career includes public health service in the Peace Corps, Micronesia, Africa and the CDC.
Dr. Lum joined ICOH in 1996 and his participation in the network was always active and enthusiastic. Over the years he organized several ICOH sessions on risk and knowledge translation and mini symposia at ICOH triennial Congresses. He chaired the ICOH Network Communication and Information for more than a decade. It is a great loss for the ICOH community.
