Gema Arevalo is an Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) with a good educational background and 22 years of experience working in onsite OSH services. She is originally from Spain, however, she has been living in the UK for 4 years. During this time she has been involved with the British Red Cross and the National Health Service (NHS). Gema has recently finished a second Master’s Degree in Management and Leadership in Nursing. For years she has been deeply committed to the occupational field by holding positions of responsibility in both, AET (The Spanish Association of OHN) and AMET (AET Federated Association in Madrid). Gema has been re-elected for consecutive term as Secretary of FOHNEU (Federation of Occupational Health Nurses within the EU). She is Co-Author in the “Memorandum on the Competences of Occupational Health Nursing” and the “Book of advanced practices in Occupational Risk Management” and has wide experience as a lecturer.

Dr. de la Hoz is an occupational pulmonologist, Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. He received his medical degree from the Universidad del Rosario, in Bogotá, Colombia, and trained in Internal, Pulmonary, and Occupational Medicine, at the University of Miami, the University of British Columbia, and Yale University. He received his MPH (Chronic Disease Epidemiology), and MSC (Environmental Health Sciences) degrees at Yale University and New York University. His research interests relate to quantitative chest CT imaging markers of World Trade Center related chronic airway diseases. ICOH member since 2009, he served as executive committee member (2009-2011), secretary (2012-2015) and chair (2015-2022) of the Scientific Committee on Respiratory Disorders. He has served since 2015 in the ICOH Working Group on the Implementation of the Global Strategy of Occupational Health for All-Asbestos Ban and Asbestos-related Diseases Elimination. He holds officer positions at the European Respiratory Society, and the American Thoracic Society.

Alexis DESCATHA - FRANCE

I am a Professor of Occupational Health in France (Paris, now Angers). My research focuses on the epidemiology of work disorders, musculoskeletal and other chronic diseases. My interest is in exposure assessment using a job exposure matrix and long working hours (I was co-lead reviewer for the WHO/ILO joint burden of disease initiative). I lead the Clinical Toxicological Unit - Poison Control Center, Western France. I also conduct research on emergencies in occupational settings and I am Chair (and creator) of ICOH’s scientific committee on Emergency Preparedness and Response, where I coordinate COVID preparedness. In 2021, I was honored by my President, as a Knight (Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur). I am the current Editor-in-Chief of Les Archives des Maladies Professionnelles et de l’Environnement. Recently, I was appointed Clinical Professor of Occupational Medicine, Epidemiology and Prevention at Hofstra School of Medicine, USA.

Maureen Dollard is an Australian Research Council Laureate Fellow, Professor of Work and Organisational Psychology and Director of PSC Global Observatory at the University of South Australia. She is the recipient of the 2020 Kathleen Fitzpatrick Australian Laureate Fellow award. She is a Board member of the European Journal of Work & Organisational Psychology, Editorial Advisory Board for Work and Stress, and formerly the Journal of Organizational Behavior, advisory board for International Journal of Rural Management and the beyondblue Workplace Mental Health Advisory Group. She served on the ICOH Board from 2022-2024 and is on the organising committee of the 2022 ICOH Congress. She established the Asia Pacific Academy for Psychosocial Factors at Work and is a Fellow of the European Academy for Occupational Health Psychology. She has published six edited books and 200 papers/ book chapters (over 15000 citations).

Prof. Joshi is a physician specialized in Occupational Medicine and Public Health. He has attended numerous international courses on occupational health and safety. He is the only registered occupational physician in Nepal and currently working as full Professor and Head at Department of Community Medicine, Kathmandu Medical College, Kathmandu University, Nepal. He has supervised many MD and PhD students who have done their thesis works on occupational health and safety. He is recognized by Nepal Government as an expert in occupational health. He has drafted National Policy and Strategy for investigation, treatment, and compensation of occupational injuries/diseases in Nepal which is incorporated in Labour Act (2017), Rules (2018) and Social Security Scheme Operational Guidelines (2018) of Nepal. He has also prepared National Occupational Health and Safety Profile (2021) for Nepal. He is current ICOH Board Member. He is Chief Editor of the International Journal of Occupational Safety and Health.

Eun-A Kim is MD (Occupational Medicine), Ph.D. She is currently Editor in Chief of ICOH Newsletter since 2015. She began research on occupational health since 1995, as Director of Department of Occupational Diseases Research, Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA), South Korea since 2009. Dr Kim has been good standing member of ICOH since 2005, and served as secretary of scientific committee of Neurotoxicology and Physhophysiology (SCNP) of ICOH since 2010. She contributed several international symposiums for SCNP and transferred the achievements on of ICOH to the projects of ILO and WHO such as diagnostic tools for occupational disease. As director of occupational research department of KOSHA, she conducted several epidemiological studies on occupational neurotoxicology, occupational cancer, and related occupational health program for the practice in workplace. She is member of editor for international journals such as Annals of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, and Safety and Health at Work.

I have worked in occupational health care since 1997. First as a practical OHN and from 2008 as a researcher, from 2010 as educational planner from 2015 as senior specialist and from 2020 as Product Manager. Work has included research, education and development tasks in field of OHS and unemployed health services. My doctoral thesis concerns the unemployed persons health services. I have also worked as Chief Editor of Occupational Health Nurse Journal in Finnish Association Occupational Health Nurses (FAOHN). I’m a medical doctor specialized in occupational health. Since February 2020 I have worked as a professor in occupational health and occupational medicine in the University of Tampere, Finland. Previously, I served as a senior ministerial adviser in the Ministry of Social affairs and Health, Department for OSH. I have ten years’ experience from Finnish Institute of Occupational Health as a clinician, researcher, and teacher. I have been a member of ICOH since 2006 and a member of scientific committees Occupational Medicine and Effectiveness in Occupational Health Services (EOHS). I started as a secretary of EOHS in 2020. I have been chairing the OSH Expert Group in Nordic Dimension Partnership in Public Health and Social Wellbeing (NDPHS) since 2017. Paul Schulte Ph.D., F.A.C.E. is the Director of the Division of Science Integration at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. Dr. Schulte is an epidemiologist trained at the University of Toronto and the University of Cincinnati. He has served on the ICOH Board during the 2022-2024 triennium and, before that, as Chair of the Scientific Committee on Nanomaterials’ Workers Health. Throughout his career, Dr. Schulte has conducted research on occupational cancer, neurodegenerative and respiratory diseases. He co-authored a textbook on molecular epidemiology. He has developed rigorous framework for addressing climate change, productive aging of workers, well-being, and the burden of occupational morbidity, mortality and injury.

Dr. Akizumi Tsutsumi is professor and chairperson of Department of Public Health, Kitasato University School of Medicine, Japan. He has long focused on occupational health, and is extending his efforts to elucidate the mechanisms of social disparites in workers’ health, the health effects of occupational stress and its prevention, and the health effects of workers affected by corporate culture. He served as former Chair of the Scientific Committee on Cardiology in Occupational Health (terms of 2010-2015), and successfully held 6th International Conference on Work Environment and Cardiovascular Disease in 2013, Tokyo, Japan. He also served as the secretary general of the 2nd International Conference of ICOH-WOPS, which was held in 2005, Okayama, Japan. I am professor of Occupational Medicine at the University of Bologna, Italy. I am currently the Past-President of the Italian Society of Occupational Medicine, founded in 1929, which actually counts approximately 2.000 members in good standing. Besides being a researcher and a teacher in Occupational Medicine, I am also an active occupational physician working with healthcare, manufacturing and service organizations, both public and private. I believe that Occupational Medicine needs everywhere a strong international perspective and this is the reason why I think that every occupational physician, in every country, should consider the membership of ICOH in the same way as the membership of the national society of Occupational Medicine. I have served as a Board Member of ICOH since 2018: if re-elected for another term, I would like to pursue my commitment in strengthening the bonds between ICOH and national societies of Occupational Medicine, to extend the adoption of the ICOH vision at a global level.

She has strong connection to ICOH across 20 years, spared no effort to enhance ICOH influence in China: (1) Worked closely with ICOH board members, particularly, EU-China Project in High Risk Sectors, ILO/WHO Diagnostic and Exposure Criteria of OH and ICD-11 for ODs. (2) Made continual contribution to ICOH Newsletter with pieces of articles, communicated the ICOH statements in the previous World Health Assemblies by Chinese social media. (3) Built national network on OH for health workers relate to ICOH Scientific Committees. (4) Under advocacy of ICOH, promoted the nationwide policy for BOHS through researches, pilot programs and tool-kits application. (5) Organized Chinese participants in previous ICOH Congress, OHHW and other events with sponsorship to young professionals, initiated the bidding for ICOH Congress in the future.
