ICOH calls for a strong global effort to promote occupational safety and health strategies to prevent TB in high-risk worker populations
Despite decades of global efforts to end tuberculosis (TB), it is still 9th in the top ten causes of death globally, with 10.4 million new cases occurring in 2016. ICOH seeks to bring governments, decision makers, and global health funders on board to recognize that health workers and workers exposed to silica dust are at significantly increased risk for TB and that this occupational risk can be reduced through comprehensive strategies.
To engage partners, including OSH organizations, employers, unions, etc., and to take these efforts forward, evidence is presented and suggestions are offered in two ICOH Statements.
1. Preventing Tuberculosis Among Silica Dust Exposed Workers
The International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH) calls for a concerted global effort to promote Occupational Safety and Health strategies to prevent tuberculosis (TB) in high-risk occupations including silica dust exposed workers in mining, construction and other industries. Read more.

The International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH) calls for a concerted global effort to promote Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) strategies to prevent Tuberculosis (TB) in high-risk TB occupations such as work in the health sector. Read more.
Assisting countries to implement policies and practical workplace actions
ICOH welcomes the involvement of other organizations and associations to assist countries to prioritize and implement prevention opportunities in high-risk occupations including health workers and silica exposed individuals in mining, construction, manufacturing and other industries.
