Marieke Wijffels-de Groot, MD, PhD, is a registered Occupational
Health Physician and former practicing Cardiologist, specialized in
complex cardiovascular disease in relation to work participation
and sustainable employability. She works at the interface of
occupational health, clinical medicine, and public health, with
particular expertise in cardiovascular disease, infectious diseases,
and workers’ health.
She works as Specialist Advisor Infectious Diseases and Workers’
Health at the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the
Environment (RIVM), contributing to national guidance, knowledge
development, and collaboration between public health and
occupational health services. In her occupational health practice,
she provides specialist consultations for workers with complex
cardiological and infectious disease-related problems.
Her specific interests include the impact of biohazards and
infectious diseases in the workplace and occupational cardiology.
She is board member of the Dutch Society of Clinical Occupational
Medicine (NVKA), guest lecturer, editorial board member of
Quintesse.
