I started my career as a
researcher and Professor of
Toxicology and
Biochemical Pharmacology in
Germany, before joining the
German
Federal Health Office and WHO
(including a two-year secondment
to
UNEP). In my career with WHO
and UNEP, I dealt with various
aspects of environmental and
occupational health policy and
management, and directed work
on several environmental and
occupational health issues,
including chemical and food
safety, as well
as governance and overall health
policy issues.
I hold Visiting Professorships in
Aberdeen, UK, , Rome,
Italy, and Bangkok, Thailand. Since
July 2014, Currently I am
Chair/Member of a number of
Panels and Expert Groups,
particularly of the
European Food Safety Agency
(EFSA).
I published 135 original papers
and 38 review articles/book
chapters,
and edited/co-edited 6 books and
special journal issues.
