Malcolm is an occupational physician and epidemiologist who is a Professor Emeritus in the School of Public health & Preventive Medicine at Monash University in Australia. Before retiring from Monash, he was Head of the Centre for Occupational & Environmental Health (MonCOEH) in the School. His research interests include the role of workplace and environmental hazards in chronic diseases, such as silicosis and other respiratory disease, cancer, psychological and musculoskeletal conditions. He also has interests in occupational disease surveillance and workplace exposure assessment. He is a past ICOH Board member and co-President of the 2022 ICOH Congress. Malcolm was the previous Editor-in-Chief for Occupational and Environmental Medicine (a BMJ specialty journal) and is the immediate past President of the Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Malcolm also had many government advisory roles during the COVID-19 pandemic.
