Sirkka Rissanen, PhD, is Chief researcher at the Finnish
Institute of Occupational Health and Adjunct Professor of Work
and Thermal Physiology in the University of Oulu. Master of
Science on physiological zoology, University of Oulu. She has 30-
year experience on the basic and applied research on human
physiological responses, physical performance and recovery in the
cold and heat, with special interest in manual performance,
contact cooling, auxiliary cooling and heating systems and
physiological strain of wearing personal protective equipment.
Her research has been directed to respond the needs of the
working life. Produced applied research results have been used to
enhance occupational safety and health in several occupations
(from food processing industry to mininig). Result products are
scientific publications, guidebooks to targeted groups and
practical solution methods for the use of OSH and workplaces.
She has more than 40 original scientific papers in international
and national journals.
