Maren studied medicine in Heidelberg, Cape Town and
Zurich until 1985 and followed a career in Toxicology
at the German Cancer Research Centre (DKFZ), and since
1989, in the Department of Hazardous Substances and
Biological Agents at Work at BG RCI in Heidelberg.
Post-graduate courses towards a MSc in Toxicology in
1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993 at the University of Surrey,
UK. 1994 to 1998 concerned with United Nations and
Chemical Safety and Social Security in Latin America
for the International Social Security Association.
Since 1995 as Head of the “Programme for the
Prevention of Health Hazards Caused by Industrial
Substances” responsible for the initiation of 432
toxicological studies and the publication of
Toxicological Evaluations of 245 and 212 chemicals in
German and English. Member of several regulatory
scientific committees in Germany and consultant for
toxicology and occupational diseases caused by
chemical substances. From 2013 Secretary of MEDICHEM.
