1954 - Naples

13-18/09/1954

11th International Congress of the Commission Internationale Permanente pour la Mèdicine du Travail

The Naples Congress also highlights the growing relationships with international organizations in the field of work and health. The address by Dr. Marcel Robert confirms once again the long standing relationship with ILO. Besides, Dr. Malan, on behalf of WHO, summarizes WHO activities and reports on relationships with occupational health international bodies. The starting points are insecticides and pesticides ad hoc treated by a section of the Congress, being also one of WHO activity areas. Finally, Reinhold Melas, the Vice-president of the International Association of Social Security, takes the floor at the Congress.
During the Naples Congress, Prof. Forssman from Sweden is elected President. At the moment the International Commission includes 32 countries with 162 official members. Besides, adhering members are "The International Industrial Nurses Committee" (Belgium, Canada, Finland, Great Britain, Sweden, USA) and "Association Nationale des Assistantes Sociales" (France).

Relationships with international bodies

In the period after the war special international authorities are created under the auspices of United Nations, such as for example, WHO, significantly affecting the Commission activity. At the beginning it was the only agency dealing with occupational health and then it started close relationships – since the period between the two wars – with bodies such as ILO. Now it is going to start a series of exchange and collaboration relationships first from a scientific and then an organizational viewpoint.
