The 9th International Congress held in London in 1948 is in the continuity line of the pre-war series. It is however a Congress organized by the International Permanent Commission for Occupational Health only and besides the title has significantly changed. After the 1st Congress named “Occupational Diseases” and the subsequent ones called “Work-related Diseases”, the London Congress includes in the title as well the new denomination of the Commission and becomes the “International Congress of Occupational Health”. As stated by Vice-president Mazel, in the Congress closing, the point is to pass from study of illness to prevention and “surveillance continue de l’hygiène du travail et de la santé du travailleur”.
The Congress is quite successful from the organizational standpoint: 900 delegates from over 40 countries are present with more than 200 scientific contributions subdivided into 33 topical sessions.
