REPORT FROM SCOHDev, AUGUST 2001

SCOHDev was reorganised after the Singapore congress.

The SCOHDev officers are now:

The current membership list of SCOHDev include 38 persons from 26 countries.
SCOHDev is preparing four symposia for the 2003 Congress of ICOH, in Brazil:

Occupational health, equity and development in Africa
Coordinator: Franklin Muchiri

Occupational health, equity and development in Asia
Coordinator: Timothy Phoon

Occupational health, equity and development in Latin America;
Coordinator: Patricia Canney

Occupational health, equity and development in Brazil
Working group: Tom Dwyer, Kaj Elgstrand, Ester Galli, Zuher Handar.

It was proposed to the President of ICOH, in October 2000, that a new scientific committee should be established by ICOH, concerning "HIV/Aids in the workplace", chaired by René Loewenson from Zimbabwe. The Chairman of the 2003 Congress has been approached in November 2000, concerning poster competition. The ICOH Officers have been approached in March 2001, concerning the need for economic support for participants from Africa and Asia in the 2003 Congress. SCOHDev is collaborating in the preparation of an international conference concerning accident prevention, to be held in Casablanca, Morocco, April 2002.

Meetings have been held with SCOHDev's Chairman and the organisers of the 2003 Congress. Miscellaneous written materials from the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health and the Swedish National Institute for Working Life have been distributed to the SCOHDev members. From 2001 SCOHDev is collaborating in the publication of a yearly journal, "OSH & Development". The development of a homepage for SCOHDev has been initiated.
